Lung Cancer Research

By
Medical professionals, doctors and others involved in the scientific study of lung cancer are constantly researching to find both preventative measures and possible cures for this cancer.
Stanford University in Stanford, California is researching the benefits of Sterotactic body radiotherapy upon lung cancer. This method of treatment is being used more and more as medical statistics seem to show promising survival rates.
The University of Maryland located in Baltimore, Maryland is conducting research in the field of genetics as it relates to lung cancer. The medical professionals believe that their studies show this cancer can be detected in its early stages through certain genetic biomarkers which can be seen in the sputum.
The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan is conducting research on the results of cancer therapy when patients are treated with platinum-based chemotherapy. The medical professionals involved in this research feel that their studies indicate that the treatments are showing definite positive results in dogs with spontaneous cancers and believe that all indications show that it would probably have the same results with human patients.
Another research project at the University of Marylalnd in Baltimore, Maryland has to do with detecting lung cancer in its early, hopefully curable stages. This research project is using the combined skills and knowledge of medical professionals who are considered to have extensive expertise in a number of different fields, such as molecular genetics, nanotechnology, cytopathology, oncology and biostatistics. Feng Jiang, who is the medical professional heading up the research is in hopes that the combined efforts of these medical professionals will result in a major break through in the fight against this cancer.
The Abramson Cancer Center which is a part of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been awarded a number of support grants to be used in conducting research on lung cancer. These grants have made it possible for them to organize strong research programs involving medical professionals who are considered to be outstanding experts in the field of this cancer expertise.
All of these research programs have the official backing of the National Cancer Institute and in addition to the person assigned as the principal investigator of each program, each also has a National Cancer Institute program director assigned to it.
Lung cancer has been shown by medical studies to be the number one cancerous killer in the world today. Over two hundred thousand people become victims of it every year and out of that over two hundred thousand over half die each year.
Research projects on lung cancer are done on a world wide basis, some on small scales and some on large ones. Everyone does what they can. We need to do what we can to educate people about lung cancer to help fight this dreaded enemy.
